The Coalition for Government Procurement on the Leadership Transition at the General Services Administration

The following is a statement from The Coalition for Government Procurement:

On April 2, Martha Johnson submitted her resignation as the Administrator of the General Services Administration (“GSA”) to President Obama. Martha Johnson’s departure, along with others at GSA, comes as a shock to many. As the principal agency charged with providing innovative solutions to Federal agencies in support of their missions, GSA plays a critical role in facilitating the business of government. The missteps cited in the inspector general’s report, while unfortunate, alter neither GSA’s mission nor its position as a trusted resource for mission-critical services and goods for the Federal Government.

The Coalition has full confidence that the General Services Administration’s dedicated acquisition workforce will continue to meet customer agency needs during GSA’s transition, through innovative and cost-effective contracting of commercial services and products. The report’s adverse findings do not reflect on GSA’s valuable acquisition offerings, which allow federal agencies to realize cost savings from energy efficient buildings to cloud computing technologies.

The Coalition looks forward to working with GSA Acting Administrator, Daniel Tangherlini, to continue the tradition of best value in support of federal agencies and the American taxpayer.

About the Coalition for Government Procurement

The Coalition was founded in 1979 to advocate a common sense approach to government contracting. The Coalition is the only organization specifically representing the well being of government contractors whose contracts are administered by GSA, regardless of the industry or size of the company. With over 300 member companies, the Coalition represents 70% of all commercial services and products sold to the federal government each year.
